Mainframe and Unix server vendor Amdahl Corp has gone to Brocade Communications Systems Inc to get fibre channel switches to flesh out its storage area networking offerings. Under terms of the agreement, Amdahl has selected Brocade’s SilkWorm 2100, 2400 and 2800 switches to create SANs out of its LVS 4800 and 4600 open systems (Unix and Windows NT) storage, its Platinum/400 S/390 storage arrays and Amdahl’s servers. These servers include Fujitsu’s Intel-based Teamservers, Sun Microsystems’ Starfires and Amdahl’s own S/390 clone servers. Amdahl joins Compaq, Data General, Dell, Hitachi, IBM, SGI, Siemens and a bunch of other vendors who are using Brocade’s fibre channel equipment.
