Advanced Micro Devices Inc’ reverse engineered version of Intel Corp’s 80386 processor, launched yesterday, is supplied initially as a 40Hz part using 0.8 micron CMOS technology (CI No 1,640), but the company expects that clock speed to rise over the next 18 months as it moves over to 0.6 micron fabrication: the Am386DXL-40 and Am386DX-40 ship from Good Friday, with volume deliveries expected by the third quarter.
