Semiconductor company Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has introduced the 2011 HD tablet platform, a new semiconductor platform for tablet devices running on Windows OS.
The new tablet platform is based on AMD’s latest Z-series application processor.
Dubbed Desna, the new Fusion chip has been designed to support HTML5, Adobe Flash 10.2, and external monitors. Desna comes with dual 1GHz cores.
Tablet users can view, edit and collaborate on documents created in Microsoft Office with devices powered by the new platform. 2011 HD tablet platform will also support Microsoft Office across multiple devices with Windows Live.
The company said that the new platform would be compatibility with the iPhone, Windows Phone 7, BlackBerry and other mobile devices.
AMD spokesperson Phil Hughes said, "By compatibility, we’re referring to the fact that you can sync with these devices the way you can with your PC."
The company intends to expand its options to other mobile operating systems such as Google’s Android.
Hughes said, "However, we are working with a company called BlueStacks that enables users to use some of their Android applications on a Windows tablet."
