Alvarion CEO Zvi Slonimsky said Interwave’s experience in cellular systems design and experience in providing complete mobile networks would accelerate the development of its WiMax offers as WiMax moves from fixed-only systems to include both fixed and mobile capabilities.
Interwave said its systems are deployed by more than 100 operators in 50 countries. However, the Mountain View, California-based has struggled for financial success. In its last quarter to March 31, it recorded a net loss of $1.1m, down from a loss of $5.5m on revenue 47.6% higher at $9.7m.
The acquisition is expected to be completed at the end of the third quarter and to be minimally dilutive in the fourth quarter and the first quarter of 2005, after which time Alvarion expects it to be accretive.
