Allied Telesis, a provider of secure IP/ethernet switching offferings, has introduced AT-8100 Series switches, a stackable green access edge switches designed to optimise end-user connectivity.
According to Allied, the AT-8100 Series is an access edge workhorse connecting systems requiring advanced layer 2+ and basic layer 3 features combined with various connectivity options from copper to fibre. The new switches support the security features required at the edge of the network and is designed to inter-operate with industry standard platforms such as Microsoft Network Access Protection (NAP).
The AT-8100 series includes the 8100S/24 and 24C, 8100S/48, 8100S/16F8-SC, 8100S/24F-LC, and 8100S/24F-BiDi as well as Power over Ethernet (PoE) versions 8100S/24POE and 8100S/48POE.
The new PoE switches support 802.3 at standard and deliver up to 30W of power per port. In addition, the 8100S/16F8-SC enables mixed-media applications by connecting local copper devices over fibre at distances of up to two kilometres, making it suitable for industrial control or video surveillance network where remote cameras may be located beyond the reach of copper cabling.
