Aldus Corp has received a lawsuit from Altsys Corp of Richardson, Texas, but reckons that it is without merit, and will be defended vigorously: the complaint alleges that the pending transaction between Aldus and Adobe Systems Inc violates terms of a software licence agreement between Aldus and Altsys that grants Aldus exclusive worldwide marketing rights to the software code of Aldus FreeHand; under the agreement, Aldus has sold FreeHand since launch in 1987 but Altsys developed the technology in FreeHand and remains responsible for ongoing product development.
