Alcatel NV and Motorola Inc’s Cellular Infrastructure Group have signed a broad memorandum of understanding to purchase each other’s wireless equipment. Alcatel will purchase and distribute Motorola’s Code Division Multiple Access radio systems, enabling the joint creation of turnkey systems – Alcatel will start supporting the industry-standard A+ open interface on its switches to achieve this. Alcatel will provide Motorola with its mobile switching subsystem as well as transmission equipment. For wireless access, the two plan to co-operate in the supply of Motorola’s Code Division Multiple Access fixed wireless access system-based networks. Alcatel will therefore deploy a V5.2 open interface on its switching subsystems. For kit using the Digital European Cordless Telephony standard, Motorola will buy radio subsystems from Alcatel.
