It is paying $250m in shares for Spatial Wireless Inc, a Richardson, Texas-based company that offers wireless switching systems. The two companies are already partners, and Paris, France-based Alcatel said the deal will enable it to leapfrog traditional mobile switching technologies with a system ready for IMS (IP multimedia subsystems).
It said Spatial’s product complements Alcatel’s portfolio of IMS-ready products, which address fixed and mobile environments and will pave the way for future converged IMS architecture and multimedia services.
In a $27m cash and shares deal, Alcatel is also buying Waltham, Massachusetts-based eDial Inc, which offers a session initial protocol software platform and applications for conferencing for voice, data and video. It also allows real-time conferencing and collaboration that integrates instant messaging and application sharing.
eDial’s software will be integrated into Alcatel’s unified communications conferencing application called My Teamwork.
