Daimler-Benz AG’s AEG Daimler-Benz Industrie is relaxing its grip on the Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based industrial minimaker Modular Computer Systems Inc, which it bought a decade and more ago, and is merging it with the operations of Anaheim, California-based repair and parts logistics services company Cerplex Group Inc, whose owners will end up with 49% of the joint venture, which will be managed by Cerplex. John Clary, president and chief executive of ModComp, will report to Richard Davis, president of Cerplex. ModComp has shrunk substantially since it was acquired by AEG – once a $60m a year company, it is now down to $33m a year. The hope is to expand the on-site contract base for ModComp and introduce new customers to Cerplex’s operations in ModComp’s process control stronghold. Cerplex is the company that acquired British Telecommunications Plc’s repair services business here in the UK last summer
