Indian personal computer maker Advanced Micronics Devices Ltd has decided to set up a wholly-owned subsidiary in the US as a part of its diversification into overseas software development. The company will invest $500,000 in the subsidiary, which will help the firm in getting orders from abroad for its newly diversified software business. Advanced Micronics’ entry into software development is expected to boost the company’s fortunes, which have been hit by low sales of PCs and peripherals. The company also plans to set up a software technology center in the southern Indian city of Bangalore. AMDL is a value-added provider for Microsoft Corp, has a tie up with Digital Equipment Corp (India) and distributes AST’s PCs in India.
