Advanced Micro Devices Inc and Samsung Semiconductor Inc have reached an out-of-court settlement of the litigation pending between them over AMD patents for programmable array logic: Samsung has acknowledged that the patents are legally valid and has decided to discontinue production of its CMOS programmable logic devices over the next two years, and AMD has granted it a limited licence during this period; the two also agreed to discuss a possible future business relationship in areas of mutual interest.
