Adobe Systems Inc demonstrated a version of its Acrobat Viewer software written entirely in Java at the JavaOne conference in San Francisco yesterday. It is being designed for use as an application, applet or JavaBean for viewing PDF files on systems that have a Java Virtual Machine. Adobe says the move will extend the reach of PDF beyond Windows, MacOS and Unix systems. It is developing the technology for third-party, Java-based products that require PDF support. The company didn’t say when a final version would be released.
