Adaptec Inc, based in Milpitas, California has announced the SCSI Master Plus and the SCSI Direction Plus kits, which enable users to connect personal computers to SCSI peripherals under any major operating system: the Plus kits run the Adaptec input-output operating environment and the software and host adaptors work with application modules developed by Ottawa, Ontario-based Corel Corp; the combined technology in each kit supports peripherals such as write-once-read-many optical drives, optical disk jukeboxes, floptical and tape drives, rewritable optical drives, multi-function, CD-ROM and hard disk drives; the Master Plus kit is designed to operate under Windows, OS/2, Unix, NetWare server systems and MS-DOS and uses Adaptec’s AHA-1542 AT-to-SCSI host adaptor; by using the AHA-1542 to handle the SCSI protocol, a system’s central processing unit is free to work on other tasks while the AHA-1542 manages data transfers; the AHA-1522 uses the CPU’s power to improve input-output performance and the host adaptor supports up to eight simultaneous input-output tasks; the Master Plus kit is $466 and the SCSI Direction Plus kit is $300; both are available worldwide.
