Acer has developed LumiRead, a DLNA compliant eReader device that integrates in the Acer clear.fi offering and allows users to share contents like eBooks and audio-books. It enables users to connect wirelessly or via 3G module to download new content.
Acer has already signed agreements with Barnes&Nobles, the US based eBooks store, Libri.de, a Germany’s iInternet book retailer, which also distributes to book retailers through the wholesaler Libri, Founder, China’s high-tech company, to provide localised contents in English, Chinese and German. French and Italian readers will be able shortly to read books in their languages, through other agreements that are almost formalised.
According to Acer, the new LumiRead is few millimeters thick and comes with 6-inch display and permits users to carry a library of up to 1,500 books. It features non-glare, no backlit e-Ink display, Qwerty keyboard and auto layout functionality that automatically adjusts the content to provide enhanced reading experience according to the format. It supports various formats, multiplying users choices, and DRM (Adobe and OMA2.0).
In addition, the new product is equipped with 2GB flash memory and its capacity can be expanded by adding a MicroSD card. It also features an ISBN scanner that allows users to scan ISBN codes, enabling them to create own wish-list and search on supported online libraries and book stores. It also features a built-in internet browser, and ‘Smart Download’ functionality that saves website content, the company said.
