Within two years, computer viruses will affect, directly or indirectly, up to 8m personal computers, reckons the apocalyptic Dr Peter Tippett, author of the paper Kinetics of Computer Virus Replications and the Tippett Curve, adding that the potential costs involved in lost data, system down-time and recovery efforts may exceed $5,000m to $10,000m over the next five years; Dr Tippett is president and co-founder of Cleveland, Ohio software publisher FoundationWare Inc, who based his research on mathematical and epidemiological models.
