San Mateo, California-based 3DO Co Inc says its first Interactive Multiplayer will be shipped next month, and at least eight programs will be available in October; despite development costs of some $1m to $2m a month, 3DO told Reuter it hopes to turn a profit in two years. Founder Trip Hawkins defended the $700 price tag, saying that the first black-and-white televisions were an inflation-adjusted $1,500, and that the Multiplayer represents a similar advance in entertainment technology.
