3Dfx Interactive Inc is releasing the next generation of its dedicated graphics application programming interface (API), Glide 3.0. The Glide API is only compatible with 3Dfx products, specifically the Voodoo2 chipset and Banshee chip and therefore cannot really be considered a competitor to the ubiquitous Direct X, Direct 3D and OpenGL graphics APIs. However, 3Dfx claims that having a dedicated API allows full…access to all the technical capabilities of their chips.
