Supports Linux-based Vms and reduces the size of thin provisioned VMs Vizioncore, a provider of virtualisation data protection and management offerings, and a wholly owned subsidiary of Quest Software, has released new version of vOptimizer Pro that provides greater benefits and additional value from their virtual infrastructure.

The company said that the storage optimisation now support for both Linux-based and VMware Thin Provisioned Vms and provides broader platform support for virtual machine (VM) storage reclamation and optimisation operations.

Vizioncore said that vOptimizer Pro enables users to gain visibility of the total amount and value of over-allocated virtual storage; and reclaim wasted VM storage (shrink Virtual Machine Disks or VMDKs) for use by other applications and business units.

In addition, it also allows to automate resizing of VMs ‘up’ or ‘down’ to alleviate administration time; prevent VM outages due to storage shortages; significantly improve VM I/O performance by performing 64K partition-block alignments.

Steve Stover, senior director of product management at Vizioncore, said: "We’ve improved vOptimizer Pro to support Linux-based VMs, which means customers can find and reclaim over-allocated storage and perform 64K partition alignments for heterogeneous VMs within their virtual infrastructure.

"Additionally, by supporting VMware Thin Provisioned VMs, the new version of vOptimizer Pro reduces the size of thin provisioned VMs by reclaiming deleted data spaces for better management of VM storage costs and improved performance."
