The on-demand CRM vendor Salesforce.com has announced Force.com free edition, a new offering that is expected to enable companies build and run their first cloud computing application for free.

According to Salesforce.com, the new edition enables companies to build their first application in the cloud and deploy it to up to 100 users. The offering also includes, one web site with up to 250,000 page vi0065ws per month, up to 10 custom objects (custom database tables) per user, a sandbox development environment to test the app or site before deploying it and a library of sample applications.

Companies that want to expand their usage to more than one app, more than 100 users or more than one web site are allowed to enhance to a commercial subscription.

Marc Benioff, chairman and CEO of Salesforce.com, said: Now more than ever, companies are asking how they can run everything in the cloud. Force.com Free Edition will enable every company to experience success with cloud computing. This will empower anyone to build and run their first cloud computing app for free on Force.com.

The company claimed that the industry research has shown that building apps in the cloud on Force.com is five times faster and less costly than on-premise alternatives.
