Nokia, the Finnish mobile maker recently acquired by Microsoft , has won victory in the initial round of US patent-infringement battle against Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTC.
The US International Trade Commission (ITC) judge Thomas Pender ruled that HTC has infringed two Nokia patents related to signals sent or received by mobile telephones and tablets.
The latest rulings are subject to be reviewed by the six-member commission, with the final decision scheduled on 23 January 2013.
According to judge, infringed patents included technologies for removing errors in radio signals and one more for a method to manage different radio frequencies.
However, the judge ruled that HTC did not violate a third Nokia patent for involving data transmission from a computer to a mobile phone.
The Finnish mobile maker has also sought ITC to bar selected HTC products from the US market, including HTC Amaze 4G, the Inspire 4G, Flyer, Jetstream, Radar 4G, Rezound and Sensation 4G.
Nokia spokesman said in a statement: "Nokia is pleased that the initial determination of the ITC confirmed that HTC has infringed two of our patents."
