A new white paper developed by Enterprise Management Associates (EMA) has highlighted three ways that will help CIOs ensure business relevance using application performance monitoring (APM).
The distributed and complex nature of current applications and business services, requiring large amounts of time and resources not only to deploy, but also to administer and maintain poses challenges to CIOs.
Quest Software funded whitepaper lists three opportunities for CIOs, which include turning of disruptive technology into an opportunity, reduce the risk of modern applications and outline a vision for "getting there".
CIOs can quantify application delivery in ways that business stakeholders can relate to by using APM offerings as required by advanced technology to reduce costs while delivering optimal application performance.
IT organisations will be able to view application by using APM platform as an application relates to supporting infrastructure, and can perform key actions, in real time.
An APM tool is expected to advance the levels of operational maturity of CIOs and inspire trust beyond traditional roadmaps for delivery of value of services by the IT organisation.
Quest Software Applications Business Unit vice president and general manager John Newsom said more than 60% of the IT department’s time is spent on operations – making sure ‘the lights are on.’
"Using APM, those resource-intensive operational tasks can be automated, leaving more time for CIOs and their departments to focus on innovation," Newsom added.
EMA research director Julie Craig said the role of the CIO is exceptionally demanding; however, the CEO suite views it relatively simply.
"This guide effectively outlines ways a CIO can not only gain a better understanding of how their applications are performing, but also can obtain tangible metrics that will help the business as a whole develop tighter, more effective strategies," Craig said.
