Micro Focus, a provider of enterprise application management software, has unveiled ReUZE, a new application that allows organisations to utilise mainframe application functionality on Windows and within the .NET framework.

According to Micro Focus, the new application is designed to integrate with the development and deployment products available from Microsoft, operating as the platform for further modernisation and cloud-based initiatives.

Stephen Kelly, CEO of Micro Focus, said: “This solution is targeted at customers that have already made the decision to use Windows as their primary platform for business processes, yet have mainframe COBOL applications that deliver significant value and competitive advantage today.”

The company said that with existing Visual Studio based integrated development environment, ReUZE developer will allow customers to take advantage of improved developer productivity, cross team collaboration and application lifecycle management with integration with Visual Studio Team System. Building on this framework, ReUZE Server is designed to utilise 64-bit Windows architectures and support the existing application platforms.

Reportedly, the new application leaves the source code unchanged, removing the requirement for customers to re-write or replace COBOL applications.

Eddie Amos, general manager of developer tools and platform business at Microsoft, said: “Micro Focus has been a pivotal partner in helping to change the application modernisation landscape by reducing costs, improving development processes and providing greater choice for mainframe customers.”
