Fairphone has launched a new smartphone, which is claimed to be the world’s first ethically sourced device, at the London Design Festival in the UK and it has also claimed to have received thousands of pre-orders.
Designed by a Dutchman Bas van Abel, the new device would not incorporate materials sourced from conflict zones or via factories with poor labour practises.
Resembling as Apple’s iPhone and Samsung’s Galaxy, the new device is powered by Fairphone OS that runs on Android 4.2, which is developed in collaboration with a social enterprise, Kwame.
Features of the new smartphones include Edge Swipe widget, Most Used and Last Used widget, Battery Mood Sensor and the Peace of Mind widget.
According to Abel, the firm has received over 15,000 orders for the new handset, which is priced at $440, with shipping planned to commence in December.
