EBay is planning to expand in Russia by opening its website to some of the largest online stores.
Reports suggest that Russia’s present political scenario and economic condition have triggered many international companies to halt their expansion plans in the country, but eBay has not let those factors affect its decision to expand its business.
The Wall Street Journal reported eBay vice-president Wendy Jones as saying that Russia was a top priority for the company, and by opening the online marketplace for local merchants it is expecting to see significant growth in the country.
According to eBay Russia CEO Vladimir Dolgov, Wikimart.ru and Citilink.ru are amongst the eight merchants, who will sell their products on eBay.
The company is also planning to allow small and medium sized merchants to sell their products through eBay to Russian consumers by 2015.
To facilitate easy transaction, eBay is offering Russian customers an option to pay for their orders at the vendors’ office.
Previously eBay has partnered with Russian delivery service Dostami.ru, for delivery of goods ordered from online US stores.
