According to Nortel, its telepresence services include complete set-up and management of HD video conferencing and collaboration, including such concierge-like amenities as web-based reservations and pre-configured, pre-connected conferences.
Telepresence transmits life-size images and makes face-to-face interaction among the participants. This process reduces the need for travel and results in lower operations costs and increased productivity.
According to the company, it is using Nortel’s infrastructure of Multimedia Network Operations Centers (MNOCs), in combination with its own global Private IP service, to manage video-enabled IP endpoints for customers around the world.
In addition, the service employs Nortel video-bridging and gateway services, enabling enterprises to take benefit of video systems from several equipment providers. Interoperability is important for business-to-business conferencing between companies using video gear from different suppliers. Nortel’s telepresence portfolio also includes proactive testing, 24 x 7 network performance monitoring, recording, on-demand playback and metrics reporting.
Joel Hackney, president of enterprise solutions at Nortel, said: “The power of our joint telepresence service with Verizon Business is of major value to customers. We’re delivering the user experience with an industry-unique model that supports standards-based telepresence, high definition, standard definition and desktop video conferencing platforms.”
Verizon Business is a provider of unified communications and collaboration services, enabling organizations to collaborate and helping them to improve response time and productivity.
