The mobile packet data core network infrastructure market is expected to reach $2bn in 2014, according to a report from ABI Research.
According to the report, increasing market demand for mobile broadband Internet everywhere, all the time is expected to drive the growth.
ABI Research principal analyst Joe Hoffman said that the market for 3G and 4G mobile broadband is driving both capacity expansion and network deployment.
"Ericsson’s nearly 30% lead in core network seems unassailable, but there is still a lot of track ahead, and the race will tighten up as vendors aggressively rollout NFV/SDN in the back stretch," Hoffman added.
The report revealed that Ericsson led the market in fourth quarter of 2012, followed by Nokia Siemens Networks and Cisco.
Ericsson increased its share in core network infrastructure market in 2012 to 29%, while Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks and Cisco jointly account for over 55% of total market share.
