Microsoft will unveil a new Windows system for mobile devices like tablet computers, and says the system will focus on devices that use UK firm ARM’s energy-saving chips.
The new system will be launched at the Consumer Electronics Show at Las Vegas in January 2011.
Versions of Windows CE and Windows Phone 7 systems that run on ARM chips will be offered by Microsoft, according to The Hindustan Times.
The company will design its standard Desktop Windows system for x-86 architecture chips from Intel and AMD.
The new windows version reportedly will be customised for battery powered devices, such as tablets and wireless handsets that use ARM chips, which are made by Texas Instruments, Qualcomm and Samsung Electronics.
Further, Microsoft has to compete with Apple which currently tops the tablet computer market and sold 7.5 million of its iPads between since its debut in April and the end of September 2010.
Microsoft official Achim Berg was quoted by the newspaper as saying that since the introduction of their smartphone software, Windows Phone 7, 1.5 million Windows mobiles have been sold, meeting expectations.
