Semiconductor offerings provider Micron Technology and PCIe-sharing offerings provider Virtensys have signed an agreement for Micron to acquire the assets Virtensys.
The agreement further strengthens Micron’s enterprise storage portfolio by combining Virtensys’ PCIe virtualisation technology with Micron’s solid state drives (SSDs), enabling data centres to share local storage across multiple servers.
Micron manufactures and markets a full range of DRAM, NAND and NOR flash memory, as well as other innovative memory technologies, packaging offerings and semiconductor systems for use in leading-edge computing, consumer, networking, embedded and mobile products.
Virtensys is an OEM focused technology company and is working to deliver innovated offerings with some of the leading server, storage and I/O adapter manufacturers.
Micron vice-president and chief memory systems architect Edward Doller said Virtensys’ PCIe-sharing technology has helped change the way data centre operators manage and deploy their virtualised I/O resources, and Micron’s enterprise PCIe drive delivers speed, reliability and power efficiency.
"This agreement would enable a combination of enterprise technology solutions that have the opportunity to virtualize SSD storage on the path to a more flexible and dynamic data center," said Doller.
Virtensys Chairman and CEO John Nicholson said Virtensys technology complements Micron’s enterprise products as Virtensys strives to empower the virtual data centre, and they are delighted to join the Micron family.
