A new survey by independent research firm ChangeWave has found that the Apple iOS remains the number one preference for US buyers.

The June survey focused on key comparisons between the Apple iOS and Google Android OS. It also considered the impact of Apple’s new iCloud service – along with the latest momentum trends for Motorola and Research in Motion.

The survey focuses primarily on the North American smart phone market.

It found that the Apple iOS and Google Android OS continue to dominate preferences for mobile operating systems.

However, the Apple iOS remains the number one preference for buyers.

The survey found that 46% of those planning to buy a smart phone in the next 90 days prefer to have the Apple iOS on their new phone.

Popularity of rival Android has also grown with 32% potential buyers wishing an Android based phone.

Research in Motion’s BlackBerry OS was the loser with only 4% of buyers saying they wanted the OS in their smartphones.

The study also found that 29% of Apple product owners say Apple’s iCloud announcement makes them ‘More Likely’ to buy Apple products in the future, as do 13% of Non-Apple owners.

In the OS customer satisfaction parameter, Apple emerged as the clear leader, with 70% of customers using the iOS saying they are ‘Very Satisfied’.

The Android OS ranks second in the study, with half (50%) of its users saying they’re Very Satisfied, compared with Windows OS (27%) and RIM OS (26%).
