Apple has announced that it sold over two million iPads in less than 60 days, since the new tablet computer hit the market.

The iPad sales crossed the one million mark in just 28 days after its launch on April 3, 2010, with customers downloading over 12 million apps from the App Store.

Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, said: “Customers around the world are experiencing the magic of iPad, and seem to be loving it as much as we do. We appreciate their patience, and are working hard to build enough iPads for everyone.”

Apple’s iPad, which is pitched somewhere between a smartphone and a netbook, weighs around 1.5 pounds and features 9.7-inch LED-backlit display with IPS technology that delivers images with 178 degree viewing angle. It allows users to surf the web, read and send emails, watch videos, play games and read eBooks.

Last week, Apple has began shipping iPad in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK, following its successful launch in the US last month. iPad is expected to be available in nine more countries in July and additional countries later this year.
