Simply titled ‘Marley’, the biopic will be streamed on Facebook at the same time its available in theatres, further signifying the growing use of social media to distribute mainstream media and entertainment.
The movie release on the silver screen and on a social media site simultaneously is a first for any U.S. film, according to Associated Press.
‘Marley’ will be available to stream live on April 20th for $6.99, it will also be available on other video on demand services after that.
Facebook started offering its users the option to rent movies in the U.S. in March of last year.
A part of the sales made from the film on Facebook will be donated to Save the Children charity.
The film will be directed by Kevin Macdonald who is known for films like State of Play, The Last King of Scotland, and Life in a Day.
