Mobile giant Three is teaming up with Cisco Jasper to make a global IoT play, targeting the connected car, transport, security and automation segments.
The big bet on IoT centres around Cisco Jasper’s connectivity management platform, Control Center. Starting later this year, Three Group’s enterprise customers will be able to use the platform to launch IoT services, with customers able to access Control Centre locally through Three Group’s national networks. Global customers, meanwhile, will be able to access the platform via Hue, Three’s mobile enabling services division.
The partnership with Cisco represents a significant move by Three to grab a share of the IoT market, a market which could be easier to access than most thanks to the company’s 90 million customers worldwide.
“Speed, flexibility and control are key to powering connected devices on a global scale,” said Jarrod Nink CEO at Hue.
“Through our global footprint of high-speed mobile networks built for mobile data, and Cisco Jasper’s powerful platform, our customers will enjoy an edge in the IoT market for years to come. This partnership will put Three at the heart of the global IoT marketplace and offers huge potential to our enterprise customers.”
Three wants to seize upon demand in a number of core markets, with connected cars being one targeted segment which could reap the benefits from Control Center. The already crowded market has as significant stake in Control Center, with 50 of the world’s largest auto brands using the platform for connected car initiatives. Three is hoping to leverage its network and global footprint to be the provider of choice for automated connectivity in this area.

Three is hoping that the big market of security and automation will also benefit from its network and connectivity, as is also the hope for transportation and logistics. Cisco already boasts a number of big name ties to players in these industries, which, again, Three is looking to leverage in its own IoT expansion.
“Innovative enterprises in every industry are already utilizing Control Center today to enhance their customers’ IoT experiences and generate new, ongoing revenue sources,” said Kalle Ward, Managing Director EMEAR, IoT Cloud at Cisco Jasper.
“Cisco Jasper has been powering these Real IoT successes for more than 10 years, and our connectivity management platform helps businesses automate and manage the delivery of their IoT services globally. We are delighted that the Three Group, with its high-speed mobile networks built for data and its multinational footprint, has selected Cisco Jasper as its partner to deliver IoT simplicity.”
