Qualcomm has launched its next lines of Snapdragon mobile processors, which could become the standard for a new generation of mobile phones, as well as a new platform for wearables.
The three processors, the 625, 435 and 425m will all incorporate new technologies including support for LTE with carrier aggregation. They include Snapdragon All Mode, support for 80.2.11 ac with MU-MIMO, dual camera image signal processors, TruSignal technology and Qualcomm Hexagon DSP.
The 435 and 425 are pin-compatible, while all three of the new processors are software-compatible.
The 625 aims to boost performance, and uses technology that decreases power consumption by 35 percent compared to the previous generation. It can carry upload speeds of 150 Mbps.
The 435 supports faster download and upload speeds than previous generations, as does the 425.
"We develop all of our processor technologies with scalability in mind, so that we can quickly and cost effectively accelerate the availability of premium tier capabilities within the rest of our portfolio of Snapdragon processors, making superior user experiences more accessible to a broader range of consumers," said Alex Katouzian, senior vice president, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.
Qualcomm simultaneously launched a new wearable platform called Snapdragon Wear, as well as the Snapdragon Wear 2100 system-on-chip. The latter aims to provide a smaller, lower power and smarter platform for wearable devices. It also has an LTE modem so that these devices can connect via cellular networks for ubiquitous connectivity.
It also launched the LTE chipsets the X16 LTE modem and the RF Transceiver. The X16 LTE Modem aims to deliver faster download speeds of up to 1 Gbps and upload of up to 150 Mbps.
