The Silica subsidiary of Sidcup, Kent-based Prodis Plc is in the computer retail and mail-order market and officially launched its new chain of computer retail stores, on April 28, from its flagship store-within-a-store on Oxford Street. The firm will operate in 19 Debenham stores throughout the UK, offering mainstream home and Windows business computers, peripherals and software, and featuring well known games consoles from Sega Enterprises Ltd and Nintendo Co. The shops will also offer personal computer updating while-you-wait, repairs, and technical advice, host debuts of hardware and software, and run training courses. These services will also be available to Silica mail-order customers. Silica stressed that prices in its stores will be competitive with its mail-order arm. The firm hopes to cater for all levels of computer literacy and that its service-oriented style and location in Debenhams, will attract a new market.
