RenderMorphics Ltd and Alliance Semiconductor Corp are partnering to provide low-cost interactive three-dimensional graphics for multimedia personal computers. RenderMorphics will optimise its Reality Lab three-dimensional software rendering library for use with Alliance’s ProMotion Multimedia User Interface Accelerators, and the companies will co-operate on future hardware and software architectures to improve the user’s real-time three-dimensional experience. A Reality Lab application fully using Alliances’s ProMotion-3210 chip was on display at Comdex, to demonstrate the benefits of Multimedia User Interface acceleration to consumers and three-dimensional game developers. ProMotion-3210 accelerates Windows displays up to 1,600 by 1,200 resolution at 8 bits per pixel, and up to 800 by 600 resolution at 24 bits per pixel truecolour. It offers Peripharal Component Interconnect, Local Bus or VESA VLBus host interface, and supports 1Mb to 4Mb memory. ProMotion-3210 costs $19 in 25,000-up quantities and is currently in production.
