Racal Electronics Plc’s Racal Redac Inc has agreed technology exchange and joint development agreements with Sunnyvale, California-based Ikos Systems Inc. The agreement gives Ikos co-ownership of parts of Racal-Redac’s VHDL simulation and architectural synthesis technologies; Racal-Redac gets co-ownership of Ikos’ advanced Applications-Specific Integrated Circuit library tool technology; and enables joint development work on products combining the two firms’ hardware and software product line to be sold on an OEM basis by Racal-Redac in Europe. The joint work will produce a full language VHDL 1076 software simulator, a tightly integrated mixed-level simulation environment, and a VHDL accelerator. The VHDL software simulator will be co-owned but the VHDL accelerator will be solely owned by Ikos and will enable designed in the VHDL hardware description language to be simulated 50 to 500 times faster than the same simulation running on a standard workstation and will be demonstrated in June for year-end ships.
