The Sunnyvale, California-based Oki Semiconductor Corp unit of Oki Electric Industrial Co is plunging into Gallium Arsenide and says it plans to introduce a major category of integrated circuits for advanced hardware designs in cellular, fibre optic and infra-red communications: it will start with GaAs RF communications devices such as low-noise microwave amplifiers; high-speed digital and ultra high-speed logic devices for wireless communications applications such as cellular phones; and laser, fibre and infra-red communications products including laser diodes and optical transmitter-receiver modules; first up will be a GaAs Field Effect Transistor broadband feedback Automatic Gain Control amplifier commercial and industrial requirements in the L, C and S communications bands, for use in personal phone systems, portable phone and data systems, wireless modems, wireless local network, global positioning systems and pagers, the company promises.
