The college is hoping the redevelopment will enable it to become a modern education establishment. It is currently in phase two of the rebuild project, meaning that one of its buildings is to be demolished, with a new building being constructed in its place.
While the building work is ongoing staff will be housed in a temporary office. The building work is scheduled for completion in January 2010.
Carillion will be installing a Cisco IP telephony system at the temporary site. Once deployed, the system can be transferred to the College’s new flagship campus when building work finishes there. The IP telephony system will include the installation of about 250 handsets.
The deal will also see Carillion provide 24/7 technical support until the rebuild is complete.
Moira Tattersall, principal of Carlisle College, said: “With the contract for our current voice IP provider coming to an end, we had the opportunity to select a new system to ensure staff can continue to work efficiently and without disruption during the rebuilding work and beyond, into the new building when it is approved. Carillion IT Services offered us the most flexible solution for our needs and we fully expect a smooth transition for our staff and students alike.”
“We are pleased to be supporting Carlisle College during their major modernisation project. The Cisco system is very flexible, can be easily configured for the multitude of changes in the temporary environment and then into the new building. Our focus is to provide an IP telephone system without disruption for calls into or out of the college throughout the redevelopment programme,” said Noel McNulty, managing director of Carillion IT Services.
