Pitching at the heart of the IBM mid-range and mainframe data communications market, Motorola Codex Ltd has released a new V32 modem, the Codex 2266 onto the UK market, and has upgraded its Sync-Up Synchronous personal computer package for communications with IBM mainframes. The 2266 modem provides 9,600bps communications on dial-up and leased lines with either two or four wires; the AS/400-compliant modems support synchronous dialling with the V25bis command set; they are UKP1,450, a price that includes a five year guarantee. The company also has software upgrades for its Sync-Up communications package. It now supports 3270 terminal emulation under IBM’s Systems Network Architecture, and a 5251 terminal emulator is available for System/36 and System/38 machines. These functions are added to the existing IBM 3274 controller and 3179 terminal emulation under SNA; the company also offers a software development kit for resellers and users who are clever enough to develop their own prtocols. The hardware consists of a Sync-Up Card with emulation and modem circuits; the card gives users a V26, 2400bps synchronous modem, auto dial functions and a synchronous communications controller.
