Fax technology specialist JetFax Inc has launched a series of multifunction products that merge the functionality of fax machines, scanners, copiers and printers with email capability, in one hardware peripheral. The Menlo Park, California-based company claims the M900e series of eFax-enabled machines are the first devices to allow users to send paper documents to any email address with the touch of a button. JetFax points out that no PC or fax server is required, unlike current systems that force users to first scan a document and then attach it to an email message using a PC. Documents are received at the company’s service center, automatically converted to email attachments by high-speed servers, and forwarded to the appropriate email addresses. Users pay for pages in 2,000 and 5,000 unit blocks for $200 and $400, respectively, with no other service or monthly charges. The M900e machines will be available in December and range in price from $2,900 to $3,300 depending on transmission speeds.
