MCI Corp’s Call Center Services division has signed an agreement to provide help desk and support services for Hewlett-Packard Co and will open a new call center to carry out the work. Exact financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but the contract will operate over several years and has been described as being a multi-million dollar agreement. The new call center will open in the spring in Boise, Idaho and has the potential to employ 450 people. Support will be given for several computing areas, including consumer products. The center will be decked out with advanced networking technologies and online reporting systems, and later in the year Hewlett-Packard customers will be able to use the internet to connect directly with a technical support agent via the MCI technology. The technology will enable live voice conversations over the web using a standard, single telephone line. MCI will start recruiting staff to work at the center later this month, and will carry out the training so staff will be able to help customers on both hardware and software related matters.
