Google is planning to launch its drone delivery service, Project Wing, in 2017.

Through the service, the company intends to deliver consumer goods and products from door-to-door within 30 minutes, using unmanned aircraft.

While Google plans to develop the unmanned aircraft it is yet to reveal specific details.

Project Wing lead David Vos said: "Our goal is to have commercial business up and running in 2017."

Google is negotiating with the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and other stakeholders on establishing air traffic control systems that would use cellular and internet technology to identify drones.

The FAA has not finalised new rules for operating commercial drones in its territory.

Google X, the company’s secretive research and development arm, unveiled details of Project Wing in 2014. Its first test flight took place in Warwick, southern Queensland, Australia.

Apart from Google, e-commerce companies such as Amazon and Alibaba are also testing drone delivery services.

Wal-Mart is seeking approval from the US regulators to test drones for home delivery.
