GEC Plessey Telecommunications yesterday announced a series of software and hardware enhancements to its ISDX private branch exchange which are claimed to increase existing functionality and traffic capacity. Software revision 3.5 offers trunk queuing, least cost routing, smartbox emulation – which allows direct access to Mercury’s 2200 service – and a paging facility enabling paged calls to be picked up on any internal extension; on the hardware side, a screen-based console is now available capable of handling 100,000 user entries, and operating speed of the inter-shelf bus is now 8Mbps, with the digital switch controller and the shelf interface having being re-designed.
