Semiconductor company Freescale has introduced a asymmetrical-multiprocessing-architecture platform incorporates an ARM(R) Cortex(TM)-M4 microcontroller and a Cortex(TM)-A5 processor to enable simultaneous real-time control, graphics-rich apps processing and flexible connectivity options.

The product platform support the two ARM cores and leverages Freescale’s expertise in extreme integration to offers a host of peripherals. These peripherals include analog-to-digital converters, digital-to-analog converters, programmable timers, on-chip memory, flexible memory interfaces, high-speed communication interfaces and security.

The new product platform will be the foundation of a family of embedded microprocessors (eMPUs) that, along with Kinetis MCUs and i.MX applications processors.

Freescale Microcontroller Solutions Group senior vice-president and general manager Reza Kazerounian said with this platform, Freescale is dramatically simplifying the development challenge of adding applications processing to a system designed for real-time control.

"We’re the first to provide extensive MCU and apps processing capabilities in an integrated hardware-software based solution, setting a new standard for the design of systems that need rich apps in real time," said Kazerounian.
