WhatsApp has taken its voice-calling feature out of beta and rolled it out to most Android users.
The new feature is likely to provide the Facebook owned service an edge above rival services like Skype, FaceTime, Viber, and iMessage .
To get the new feature, users will have to download the latest version of WhatsApp 2.12.19, but the feature also appears in the older 2.12.5 version of the app.
According to some reports it did not work properly in the older version of the app.
With the addition of the calling feature, the overall look of the WhatsApp has been altered which now shows three tabs including Calls, Chats and Contacts.
Users can select the name of the person and and tap onto the call icon on the top right side of the screen.
Just like normal calls, users will be able to see an incoming WhatsApp call screen and slide the green button to receive the call.
The call tab also shows a list of all incoming, missed and outgoing calls.
Presently, Android users cannot call users belonging to other platforms as the service is limited to Android, but it is expected to roll out to iOS soon.
