Symantec and search engine Ask.com have announced a multi-year, strategic partnership to deliver safer web search results.
The companies said Safe Search provides users with ratings before they visit a site that could damage or infect their PC. Users can conduct searches directly from their Norton toolbar and see site ratings presented on a customized search results page.
Last year Symantec released an open beta of its Norton Safe Web web site-rating service to differentiate safe web sites from malicious ones by observing visual site ratings in search results including Google, Yahoo, and Live Search.
Janice Chaffin, president for consumer business unit at Symantec, said: Search is a fundamental part of consumers’ everyday lives, and Symantec is continually looking at ways to help consumers extend protection into activities such as shopping, social networking, and online banking. Ask.com has demonstrated a commitment to making the web a safer place, and can bring Norton Safe Web technology to more consumers through Ask.com’s 76 million unique monthly users.
Safe Search is available in English only, and is included with Norton Safe Web as part of the Norton 360 version 3.0 public beta.
