NTT Communications said that it has increased the data transmission speed of its global IP network between the US and Japan to 300Gbps, enhancing the company’s position in Tier-1 transpacific IP connectivity.

The company said that the traffic between the US and Japan accounts for some of the heaviest data volumes handled by carriers with global IP backbones. The increased capacity of NTT’s US-Japan route will enable the company to respond to growing demand for higher-capacity transmissions between the two countries.

NTT said that the growing use of broadband and the rising popularity of video content led to a tripling of the company’s bandwidth in 2009 compared to 1997, the year when the company launched 45Mbps service to support international internet access for Japanese ISPs.

In 2000, the acquisition of Verio and its Tier-1 IP backbone enabled the company to increase its US-Japan bandwidth to 1Gbps. In 2002, data transmission speed was increased to 5Gbps and in 2005, NTT enhanced its backbone by measuring network-latency variability with a jitter-type SLA.

The company introduced a traffic analysis system to help IP network operators monitor network traffic to detect and report traffic anomalies in 2008. NTT Com said that it also plans to continually enhance global IP network for high-quality, high-speed data transmission services.
