Nextel, a provider of telecommunications services in Mexico and Latin America, has selected NCR to provide a self-service bill payment system.

The system, which is based on the NCR SelfServ 32 automated teller machine platform, is designed to enhance service by allowing Nextel customers to pay their bills without staff assistance, using cash, credit cards or debit cards. Customers can still make payments at the bank in the usual manner.

NCR claims that the self-service system can also improve operational efficiency for Nextel by allowing service center employees to focus more of their attention on revenue-generating activities on the sales floor and on helping customers who have questions about Nextel services or products.

The NCR self-service bill payment system deployed by Nextel includes a managed services agreement that provides hardware and software service, remote system monitoring and 24/7 help desk support.

Juan Enrich, CFO of Nextel in Mexico, said: NCR provided a tailor-made solution that improves cash administration and helps make transactions faster and easier for our customers. We handle 60% cash payments and the rest with credit or debit cards at a low operational cost. With this technology, we eventually will be able to provide service 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
