Chilean mobile network operator Entel has upgraded its network in Latin America by the addition of a HSPA Evolution technology supplied by Ericsson.

The network will offer peak data rates of 42Mbps to consumers and allows more customers to enjoy an efficient mobile broadband experience.

Entel intends to offer a maximum 22 Mbps data speed, while the average download speed will be 6 Mbps.

Entel notes that the launch of the DC-HSPA+ 42Mbps technology is also the first HSPA Evolution dual carrier technology implementation in Latin America.

The technology is also designed to meet the rapidly-growing data traffic demands in the region given that Entel’s network has experienced rapid growth in data traffic through increased usage of smartphones and advanced mobile applications.

The Chilean market has reportedly seen a number of HSPA releases and high-speed broadband services as a result of Ericsson’s partnership with Entel since1996.

In the process of the successful introduction of high-speed mobile broadband and smartphones on the market, operators could modernise their network to offer efficient service to their customers while reducing total cost of ownership, Entel said.
