Deutsche Telekom’s wholesale arm Deutsche Telekom International Carrier Sales & Solutions (ICSS) and electronic communications services provider Lattelecom have signed an agreement to jointly deploy the Baltic Telecommunications Highway.
Baltic Telecommunications Highway is mandated to serve the increasing Internet-traffic demands between Western Europe and Russia via the Baltic States and provide quality transmission with unprecedented low latency.
Under the agreement, the companies will cooperate to set up a joint fibre-infrastructure across the Baltics, Poland and Germany, which will deploy network technology to allow transmission speed of up to n * 10 Gbps.
Deutsche Telekom International Carrier Sales & Solutions senior vice-president Holger Magnussen said by partnering with Lattelecom, Deutsche Telekom, ICSS brings businesses in the Baltic States and beyond access to a European next generation network.
"The Baltic states as well as Russia have witnessed a substantial surge in demand for network connectivity, and through the Baltic Highway we will jointly provide enhanced connectivity for the region," said Magnussen.
Lattelecom Management Board chairman and CEO Juris Gulbis said Lattelecom early on the way is setting up a powerful data transmission highway which in the future will help Lattelecom to satisfy the ever growing need for high Internet speed of customers.
"Baltic Telecommunications Highway is a project of international importance as it will ensure Russian and other neighboring state telecommunications operators with the geographically shortest route for data flow to Europe and the rest of the world," said Gulbis.
